Nabeela Al Khayer
Nabeela Al Khayer was born in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain. The free spirited contemporary artist, who is also a successful businesswoman in what remains a very masculine and traditional society, is driven by a fierce passion to empower women, and is inspired by their often tumultuous and secret world. Her appreciation for all that is feminine is expressed on every canvas, and in every heat-filled brushstroke. Her expressive portraits, brought to life through her vibrant use of colour and shape, speak volumes of the life heartaches, struggles and joys that all women, regardless of their culture or socioeconomic status, share. She usually paints a woman, or a suggested feminine presence, as a representation of strength and passion, and in her own words, “dives into the depths of women to reveal their inner beauty, whether society deems them breathtaking or uglyâ€. Painted with harsh, inconsistent strokes and vibrant colours, her portraits often include poetic notes written in the borders, adding an extra dimension to the canvas’s story.
